How this tool works

Reviewed 12 September 2026. Services Australia settings from July 2026 and ASFA March-quarter 2026 budgets.

Calculation outline

  1. Solves for savings and investments needed to fund the entered real spending through the selected plan age, allowing for returns, inflation, other income and a simplified Age Pension estimate.
  2. The pre-super-access bridge subtracts other income from spending from its start age. Nonfinancial assessable assets affect the assets test only; deeming applies to financial investments.

Worked example

Example: retiring before age 60 creates a separate savings for the years before super for the years before the model’s simplified super access age.

Limits

  • The Age Pension estimate excludes Work Bonus, Rent Assistance, overseas rules, different partner ages and several specialised pension treatments.
  • Returns and inflation are smooth assumptions; the model does not simulate market sequence risk, tax by account type or aged-care costs.
