Transactions overview

Understand how the transactions workspace is split between the full ledger, recurring view, review inbox, and smart rules.

The four parts of the workspace

The top-level Transactions route hosts four sections, each a row in the Track sidebar:

  • All Transactions for the main ledger.
  • Recurring for expected inflows and outflows.
  • Review for items that still need attention.
  • Smart Rules for transaction automation rules and cleanup logic.

What belongs in each section

  • Use All Transactions for search, filters, sorting, paging, edits, and bulk actions.
  • Use Recurring to review patterns that should repeat over time and to spot drift. Auto-created recurring items show why they were created and keep an undo/delete path available.
  • Use Review to work through transactions or items that still need categorisation or confirmation.
  • Use Smart Rules when you want to create, reorder, or refine recurring automation logic without leaving the Transactions workspace.

All Transactions opens unfiltered and sorts newest first. It deliberately does not inherit a date range from Dashboard, Budget, or Reports, so links to a category, import, review queue, or recurring view are not shortened by an unrelated reporting period. Explicit dates in a transaction link still apply, and the household or spender scope continues to follow you.

Track money you expect back

Open a transaction's details and turn on Awaiting reimbursement for an expense you expect someone to repay. When the repayment arrives, flag that credit as a Reimbursement credit and put it in the same category as the original expense.

The reimbursement summary uses the transactions' signed amounts: flagged expenses reduce the balance and flagged credits increase it. For example, a $100 flagged expense followed by a $60 flagged credit leaves $40 to collect. Keeping both transactions in the same category also nets the repayment against the original expense in cash-flow reporting.

The reimbursement flag is separate from tax-deductible and tax-free details. Changing one does not change the other. You can also mark or clear the reimbursement flag for selected transactions with the bulk actions in All Transactions.

The canonical review and recurring routes now live inside the transactions hub at /transactions?tab=review and /transactions?tab=recurring. Older links such as /subscriptions and /review are still normalised into the current transactions hub for compatibility.

Smart Rules management is canonical at /transactions?tab=rules. Budget and Settings shortcuts route there so creation, suggestions, priority, and run controls stay in one place.
