Getting started with Dolla
Use the welcome flow to tailor starter categories, set up spending profiles, choose a data path, and get your Dolla account ready.
Start with the welcome flow
New accounts with no transaction history start at /welcome. The flow tailors a starter category list, confirms whose spending you will track, then asks how you want to add real financial data.
Choose Finish later at any stage if you are not ready to continue. Dolla saves the stage and stops automatically sending you back to welcome. Open /welcome when you want to resume.
The Categories step asks a few optional questions before showing the complete selected list. You can skip straight to that list, untick anything you do not want, or submit an empty selection. Use Add category on any high-level group to stage your own categories; Dolla creates them with the selected starter categories when you choose Create my categories. You can add, remove, or change categories later from Budget > Categories, but a thoughtful starting list keeps imports, rules, and reports cleaner.
The Household step asks whether you will track more than one person. If you answer yes, add at least one additional spending profile before continuing. Spending profiles are used to attribute transactions; they do not give another person access to Dolla. You can send account invitations later from Settings > Family.
The final welcome screen confirms that setup is complete and hands you into the dashboard or Guidance hub. Create goals manually from the Goals page when you know the amount, account, or category you want to track.
Recommended first steps
- Review the tailored category list so imports and Smart Rules land in the right structure.
- Confirm whether you need additional spending profiles, and add their names before importing transactions.
- Choose a real-data path: connect a bank feed, import a CSV, or add manual accounts.
- Open the dashboard and check that your starting data looks right.
- Create at least one Smart Rule from the Transactions workspace if you already know a recurring merchant or pattern you want automated.
- Set one real budget limit so budget widgets can show meaningful progress.
If you skipped data during welcome
You can come back through Import & Export at any time. If you finish welcome but skip the data step, Dolla may send one in-app reminder after about two days while you still have zero transactions. That reminder opens Data Management so you can import a CSV or connect a supported bank feed without re-running welcome.

If you want guided help instead of reference docs
Open the account menu in the app header when you want the Help Centre, guidance hub, or product tours. Use the Help Centre when you want the longer explanation behind a feature, and use tours when you want a short in-product walkthrough.
